Could one ever forget John? Not only serious but seriously funny and a great mirror for the humour of others. I have many fond memories of John at Caius - but many also of our friendship in later years. He was a man who both Jan and I will miss greatly.

I remember designing and building an aluminium cantilever with JD in the Engineering Department: it failed promptly and enthusiastically under test. At that point, we both realised, I think, that our respective futures lay other than in Engineering.
